Focus on the human

Wiebe Hendriks (20) has been working for Humaps for the last couple of months. He has been conducting research for the Eindhoven University of Technology. His research focused on gaining insight into extracting Humaps’ performance and improvements from customer feedback using sentiment analysis. He is ready for the summer, but before he goes off to Sziget Festival in Budapest, we asked him a few questions about his time at Humaps.

Could you tell us about your internship for Humaps?

My name is Wiebe Hendriks, and to finish my bachelor I did an internship at Humaps. During my internship, I conducted a sentiment analysis to measure how the Humaps application is performing based on customer feedback. Sentiment analysis is a Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technique that can determine whether someone has a positive or negative opinion towards a specific product or feature. It will automatically analyze user feedback as the algorithm is trained to recognize words in sentences and is able to predict whether the sentiment of the opinion is positive or negative.

The model that I built shows the overall sentiment, but also the sentiment for each important feature of Humaps and their associating keywords. Therefore, we can see which specific aspects of the application are functioning well, and which need attention. By focusing on the software performance, we help managers to understand their customers’ needs.

What impact did your research have on Humaps?

I also looked at the data of competitors of Humaps by analyzing their online reviews. We have therefore gained insights into how these competitors are performing and found their strengths and weaknesses. Humaps could take this into account to try to gain a competitive advantage. So, with the model I built, Humaps has gained insight into its own software’s sentiment, and its strengths and weaknesses. But the model also can be used to gain insight into competitors’ reviews. This all came together into a dashboard I designed so that the model can be used at any time. The research ultimately gave guidelines on where Humaps needs to focus to improve their software and align the product with customer needs.

How has your experience been with the Humaps team?

From the first moment I entered the office, I experienced a very warm and welcoming feeling. I also had the possibility to join the company’s retreat weekend, which was very nice. I got to know many people in a relaxed setting. I think Finaps, and therefore Humaps is a pleasant place to work. During my internship, I was very well guided by my supervisor Alexander Driessen, and everyone was ready and willing to help me. I am very happy with my result and the added value I was able to add to Humaps.

What has been your general impression of the Humaps application?

The Humaps application is a pretty good application. It is very user-friendly, and the design looks clean. The application is understandable, accessible, and easy to use; my results of the testing process also support this. I think that it is a handy tool for businesses to manage their HR tasks in an intelligent and smart way. It contains different and important features which makes it a complete and versatile software tool. When they keep listening to their customers’ needs and feedback, the software can be improved, which will definitely result in happy and satisfied customers.

We want to thank Wiebe for his time here at Humaps. He has a tremendous help during the start of Humaps. We wish him a lovely time during his well-deserved vacation and wish him all the best for the future.
